Natural beauty at Deutsche Bahn AG
The rail and transport giant relies on dishes made of cellulose fibres and thermoplastics, which are environmentally friendly and 100% recyclableAt bahnshop.de railway fans, passengers and employees will find a wide range of travel-related articles. The selection of merchandise items is as extensive as the Deutsche Bahn rail network itself. They range from suitcases and bags, re-usable mugs and bottles and JBL headphones to practical gadgets such as smartphone holders, USB sticks or the 5-in-1 charging cable.
Eight brand worlds have been created to highlight Deutsche Bahn's brand values in terms of quality, sustainability and digital competence. They include, for example, the firm of koziol with its ORGANIC Collection. The collection consists of a lunch box, a to-go drinking bottle, plates, bowls and a mobile table lamp. The koziol motto is "Natural beauty comes from within". The material of the ORGANIC Collection consists of cellulose fibres and thermoplastics. In contrast to so-called 'bioplastics' (e.g. bamboo), this mixture is not a compound, but a pure material that can be easily recycled in full. The products are absolutely food-safe, tasteless, naturally BPA-free, dishwasher-safe up to 100°C and particularly hygienic in use.
To be more precise, the organic material consists of thermoplastic polypropylene (PP/05) and natural cellulose, does not contain any additives and is free of any plasticisers, BPA, melamine or formaldehyde. Its durability and robust material make the ORGANIC Collection particularly sustainable. The products are easy to carry and at the same time highly robust and virtually indestructible. Even during production up to 90% less energy is consumed than in the manufacture of ceramics, glass or aluminium. The latter are processed at temperatures of 800° or 1,500°, while the organic material needs only 180°C. Local production in Germany guarantees short transport routes within Europe.
The material can always be returned to its original form by melting it down, as is the case with glass and metal. At koziol, all production-related waste is recycled. In the case of porcelain, ceramics and melamine composites, however, recycling is not possible because the chemical reaction cannot be reversed.
Ever since 1927 koziol has been producing exclusively at its Erbach site in the Odenwald region of Germany. And it does so with an exceptional level of vertical production: design, development, construction, mould making, production, dispatch and office are all under one roof in the same location. Thanks to its philosophy of manufacturing all its products exclusively in Germany to the present day, koziol stands for responsible, future-oriented action and design with a clear conscience. Sustainability has always been a natural part of the company's strategy. Since 1 January 2013 koziol has been producing exclusively with green electricity, saving around 1,276 tonnes of CO² annually.
