Behind the CSA Academy

From the outside it looks quite easy, just an interview... but what is actually involved? What happens behind the camera and what technical aspects have to be mastered? What else needs to be done that hasn't been thought of? A look behind the scenes at our new talk series CSA Academy.

An interview between two people... easy peasy, let's do it. It sounds simple, but it doesn't just happen. However, after a few years of experience in video shooting and editing we're pretty well set up technically.

Michael, our director, is the one who pulls all the strings.  He is responsible for the picture and sound, and has all the data from the streaming camera and the microphones fed into his direction software and the mixing console. The streaming camera films Steven and two radio microphones record every sound. We conducted the interviews using Teams, and the space background that our design team created was also used by the interviewees.

Before we could get going we had to prepare a few things in advance. The so-called 'lower third', which contains the names, the companies and positions of the interviewees, is created anew for each talk. Our design team visualised all the products that were shown in the talk with our own design. Guys, I counted them, there were... brace yourselves... 198 visualisations!!! Add to that 37 thumbnails for YouTube previews, and we have a total of 235 created images.

Now Michael can prepare his stream deck. Think of it as a mixing console into which he enters the respective images for each talk via the direction software. The cameras are also stored there so that he can switch between the images during the talk at the touch of a button. Short videos can also be entered here and shown during the interview as required.

The live talk can now start. It is recorded and then has to be rendered before it can be uploaded to YouTube. Now the social media team get involved. For each talk they create a text to be read, i.e. 37 texts. After approval, these texts are uploaded to YouTube with the thumbnails. The media library and 37 social media posts are created.  These are widely shared on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook and also made available to our suppliers to achieve a wider reach. The social media team present the 198 visualised products with their features and functions individually in the stories. On Instagram users are thus given a quick and clear impression of all the products.

Last but not least, of course, we shouldn't forget the communication, coordination and organisation of the interviews. Making appointments 37 times, conducting interviews 37 times, sending videos, posts and texts 37 times, etc.

A lot of effort, but we think the result is a very successful format and it was more than worth it. We have achieved our goal of shortening the time until PSI, because until then we will be able to watch two or three CSA Academy seminars every week.
