Back to Normality

After no less than 25 supplier meetings, we successfully brought the first half of the year to a close after a much too long pandemic-related break. “Digital works in a pinch, but personal conversations are the bread and butter of our industry,” says Steven Baumgärtner.

After weeks of digital meetings and countless conference calls, it was about time to get back to the key element of our business – face-to-face interactions. And so we invited our top 25 suppliers to visit us in Mannheim over the past 3 weeks. We wanted to allow an air of normality to return to our everyday lives and also to take the time and opportunity to speak with one another about the coming weeks and months and to develop new concepts. This was the spirit that pervaded the meetings and you could sense a feeling of motivation, joy and simply gratitude for the personal interaction throughout.


Of course the entire undertaking had to be given an appropriate framework, and so we took extensive hygienic precautions. Our large meeting room provided ample space for relaxed meetings and presentations. Our entire sales team was either present in the meeting room or followed the sessions via Microsoft Teams. The minimum distance was and continues to be maintained throughout the building at all times, and disinfectant and face masks have been made available in sufficient quantities.

 

But now let’s move on to the exciting and essential part: Each session featured one, two or even three highlights. Our two NEWS MAG V1 and V2 – simple new ideas – feature many exciting and new products. They are characterised by fresh ideas, innovative products and new possibilities with a great deal of style and design. Demand and the overall trend still clearly point towards sustainability, natural-based materials and reusable products. Consumers increasingly tend to value quality over quantity, especially in the area of technology, and local sourcing such as Made in Germany or Made in Europe is becoming increasingly important, not just because of corona. In light of the current situation, everyday solutions to prevent the spread of germs were a huge inspiration, to give you a first idea. Of course the seasonal theme, outdoor and summer, is another highlight, and we have some great ideas lined up for you here too!

 

A lunch box or cutlery that suggests recipe ideas via NFC technology, special spice variations to guarantee a successful barbecue and a starch-based double-walled organic plastic cup made of sugar cane with a stylish design are just some of the creative ideas we have in store for you.
