A new chapter has begun – the sod-turning ceremony in Mannheim
For cyber-Wear, the construction of a new building in Mannheim is a major step and an important one tooWith the symbolic sod-turning ceremony at cyber-Wear Heidelberg GmbH, the foundation stone for the future head office was laid. The two Managing Directors, Steven Baumgaertner and Roman Weiss, officially opened the building site for the EUR 7 million investment, together with Mayor Michael Grötsch, Jan Schleicher, Managing Director of Michael Gärtner GmbH, the construction company who have been contracted to carry out the work, and Stephan Köhler, partner in property development company Fähnrich Invest GmbH. Also attending were employees, families, friends, future neighbours, further representatives of the Mannheim authorities, employees of the building contractors and representatives of the bank involved, the Volksbank Kurpfalz.
"This was the first major conversion of a military base in Mannheim. Today around 90 percent of the area has been sold and consequently occupied – several prestigious companies have moved into the Friedrichsfeld-West business park, including Dachser, Berrang, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. Now new companies are coming too – cyberWear Heidelberg GmbH and CG Fulfillment & Logistics GmbH. An important component of the strategy of the Mannheim authorities in terms of their economic policy is to increase the number of skilled jobs here and to offer support to companies which show a lot of potential for development and which will have a positive impact on the business location," said Mayor for Economic Affairs, Michael Grötsch, welcoming the two partners and Managing Directors Steven Baumgaertner and Roman Weiss and their employees to Mannheim.
For the development of the 290,000 m² business park, the Business Development department implemented a complex bundle of measures within a tight schedule. With the planned new buildings for the two companies, the last gap in the business park on the southern side of Elsa-Brändström Street is being closed. Considering that the areas of land were only handed over to the city from the national authorities in 2010, this represents a considerable success.
Having sufficient space was one of the reasons for the move, according to Baumgaertner; he also once again emphasised that "We are really looking forward to being in Mannheim. The reputation of the city as a place for founding businesses and as a hotspot precedes it – that suits us perfectly. The construction of the new building in Mannheim's Friedrichsfeld-West business park marks the beginning of a new chapter for cyber-Wear and the Cybergroup". On an 8,000 m² piece of land, there will be around 3,950 m² of warehousing space, 1,564 m² of generously-sized office space, 250 m² of which are intended as a state-of-the-art Design Lab and 270 m² as social facilities, in which up to around 100 employees will work", according to Steven Baumgaertner.
